November 21-28, 2010 Thanksgiving in St. Augustine

St. Augustine in November with 80 degree and blue skies was a special place to enjoy sailing and our new friends. Pegg and Jay (the latter being Dan’s brother) had gone far beyond being gracious. They lived about a mile from our Conch House Marina and their home was an easy walk across the Bridge of Lions and into downtown St. Augustine. Chef Glen of Sevilla made us a chicken taco dinner with all the works one evening. We all enjoyed sitting around Pegg’s dining room table chatting and comparing sailing stories.

On Thanksgiving we enjoyed a variety of family traditional recipes and a turkey carving by Al (Pegg’s Dad) that could have been on a food network show!   We played bocce ball in their yard, couple against couple.  John had gotten all our points and I soon realized that I needed much more practice playing that game.  I thought the guys were afraid to put the wives together since the wives had beaten the husbands at sailing four days prior.  We all had a great time and no one went back to their boats hungry.

On Saturday, we enjoyed going to an art festival in St. Augustine where many artists showed their goods.  We were all able to pick up some gifts. The art festival came twice a year and there was quite a turn out.  We enjoyed listening to live music as we ate gyro wraps, which we washed down with beer, for lunch.

We were to head back home on Wednesday with Dan and Martha in their car.  Pekabu and Sevilla would be leaving St. Augustine to continue the journey down the coast of Florida.  They both had friends they would be visiting and they looked forward to investigating some golf courses along the way.  Brunelle and Andiamo would meet up with them when we returned to Florida after Christmas.
