January 10, 2011 Vero Beach to Hutchinson Island

We left Vero Beach and headed south to the Stuart area to pick up Sevilla.  They had been enjoying being in a marina in Stuart for the previous month.  The day was somewhat uneventful until we tried to get into Hutchinson Marina at the Marriott.  The winds were blowing from the south at 20 knots and their advertisement in the book stated their depth was at least 6.5 feet.  Brunelle tried to get into a slip and was hitting the bottom but they eventually got in.  Next was our turn.  We were going into the slip next to Brunelle and we ended up hitting the bottom.  We knew it was a useless task so we asked the dock hand where else we could go.  We had to go back into the wind and tie up on the fuel dock.  That was the first fuel dock that did not have protection on the piling and tying up in 20 knot winds was a challenge.  The dock hand was inexperienced and not much help but we were thankful that Dan had been there to help with the lines.  In a few hours the winds died down and we had a peaceful night.
