October 31, 2010 From CoinJock to South end of Alligator River

We left the dock at 7:30 am and we were hoping for another 50 mile day.  We traveled the Albemarle Sound which is noted for its choppy waters and, sorry to say, it lived up to its reputation as we had four to five foot waves.  The wind was within limits since the swing bridge at the end did not open in winds in excess of 35 knots.  I would not have wanted to go through this body of water only to find out the bridge would not open for us. We were fully aware that we were not far from Cape Hatteras and the ocean.  Once we arrived at the entrance of the Alligator River we had calmer water and were able to prepare lunch.  We traveled the length of the Alligator River without instance and admired the scenery the whole way.  We found a beautiful anchorage at the south end of the River and John prepared a fantastic pork tenderloin dinner with sauerkraut. Great wine and a beautiful sunset topped off a great day.  We were still in awe that we were taking this trip and felt extremely lucky that we could!
