We started off the morning realizing Dan had left his new propeller out in the cockpit. If we had realized it earlier, John would have taken it and left a ransom note! But we did not get the opportunity. As soon as our daily breakfast meeting was finished, we gathered on Brunelle to watch Dan as he went about his work. He thought out the process very logically as he had to take off the old one (with many pieces) without dropping any parts in the 18 feet of water in the marina. He used weighted down buckets for the parts and the tools. Very clever! He did not drop one single part as he put the old propeller back together on the boat. A rain shower was in the process of going by and it gave us all a chance to have lunch and for Dan to rest up. The new propeller was forty pounds and with the help of a line, and with John lowering it into the water, Dan promptly put it on Brunelle. He added the zinc and now she was ready to sail. Brunelle would go for a test run in the open water prior to going to the Bahamas. Dan want to make sure all was well prior to any major trips.
Martha and I took a bike ride to check out some local restaurants and the nearby neighborhoods. We found a variety of mail boxes in all kinds of water related shapes such as an alligator, a variety of fishes, and a manatee, but our favorite was that of a light house. The roads in this area were very bicycle friendly which was great since that was our main method of travel. For dinner, since we had a threat of rain, we ended up at the nearby Holiday Inn to take advantage of the cocktail hour specials.
