Flowers in our cockpit- including a Basil plant
Final breakfast at Key Largo
Pete took one last bike ride to Publix that morning after breakfast while the rest of us threw in one more load of laundry. We filled the water tanks and we were finally ready to leave. Our plan was to leave at 1pm after the commercial boats left the marina. We took a short ride to Rodriquez Key and anchored around 2pm where there was only one other boat anchored besides us. By 4:30 there were 13 boats. This was considered one of the many jump off points for the Bahamas and since there had not been a weather window for three weeks we knew we would not be alone! We expected it to become even more busy and crowded as the night went on.
At 6:30pm we had 20 boats and one law enforcement boat cruising around. We were testing all our lights and the officer came over to us and asked what we were doing. John promptly told him we were just checking our lights for the next day’s trip. He told us that there had not been any boats in this anchorage the previous night so we certainly picked the correct timing to cross. It was early to bed as 4am would come quickly.
