We were able to sleep in a little that morning and then did a few chores. John was trying to get an electrician to come and replaced our VHF radio in the cockpit. We had the correct part but fishing the line to the radio below unit was the issue.
Brunelle had asked if we wanted to go and investigate the town of Nassau with Rose and Patrick. I tagged along while John stayed and did some chores on the boat.
We took a taxi to Ardastra Gardens Zoo. We arrived in enough time to view some of the animals and we had front row seats for the flamingo marching parade. Rose was chosen from the audience to go in with the flamingos and dance with them. We all enjoyed the laugh. Martha and I went and fed the parrots in their large cage. The parrot keeper gave us slices of green apples to hold in our hand, and at first the parrots were not coming to eat. We were informed that the parrots liked red apples but the zoo had been able to get only green apples. As you see from the pictures, the parrots finally ate the green apples.

A beautiful peacock showing off for us.
We left Ardestra and walked to the fish fry for a small bite to eat. We continued to walk into town and headed for the straw market. Martha, Rose, and I walked up and down the many aisles but the vendors had mostly the same items. Martha and Rose picked up a few items. As we were walking in town a St Patrick’s Day parade was starting. The outfits and the steel drums were funny to watch. People were in a partying mood on that block.

The headresses were quite elaborate
We decided to take the bus back to the marina and we hurried on the bus #10 thinking it was correct. We never asked the driver which direction he was going! All five of us were on the bus which was heading in the wrong direction. We saw the scenic end of the island where all the resorts were located. The water was picturesque as we drove along the waterway. We got to the end of the line and no one else was on the bus; the driver asked us where we were going. He informed us we had gotten on the wrong number bus. We needed a 9, 11, or 19, and not the 10! So he took us back to town. Yes, we had to pay twice for going round trip. It was a nice tour of the other end of the island. We got back into town and walked about four blocks to the correct bus stop. Bus #9 came along and we jumped on. The driver was nice enough to leave us off at the front entrance to our marina. The buses there were a little unique. They had a row of folded seats down the middle of the aisle. If someone in the rear wanted to get off, all the people who were seated in the middle section had to get up and off the bus in order for the one person to leave. Once the person paid the driver and got off all the people climbed back on and the bus continued down the street.
Sailing vessel Cool Runnings was at the marina and asked us if we wanted to join them for dinner at the Nassau Yacht Club. Cool Runnings was a 34 foot Catalina that we had met at the Big Majors anchorage and there they were again. The owners were a couple from Lockport, NY and they were leaving the next morning to head back to Florida.
We got Brunelle and the eight of us walked to the Nassau Yacht Club. You needed to show your card that you belonged to a yacht club somewhere. Cool Runnings belonged to one in NY and John showed his card for the Miles Yacht Club and it worked. We had a reasonably great dinner out on the patio of the club. The bartender made fantastic drinks and the meals were plentiful. That was a must for a return visit some day. The interesting thing at the club was that Martha recognized pictures hanging on the wall of people that she knew.
We walked back to the marina and said our good-byes to Rose and Patrick. They were headed to St. Augustine to spend some time with Jay and Pegg and then back to Chile.
