March 28, 2011 Current, Eleuthera to Lynyard Cay, Little Harbour, Abaco

                                           Our Sunrise at Current, Eleuthrea

We began the day’s journey at 7am by crossing a small body of water and going through Little Egg Island cut to the Atlantic Ocean where deep blue waters were awaiting us.  The sunrise was spectacular; however, the saying goes “Red skies in the morning, sailors take warning”.  We knew some questionable weather was coming. We had decided to cross over to the Abacos due to the storms marching across Florida.  Since we had about 45 miles of deep Atlantic waters to cross it was a fairly good day with southerly winds. The following seas varied through the day from one foot to three feet. We were not the only ones who made this decision.  We counted 10 sailboats making the same journey within our sight. We arrived and anchored by 4pm with only limited sightings of water life.  We saw flying fish and Portuguese man-of-war (our nasty water friends from Key Largo) along with fish that were just jumping. It was always fun to watch them.

We anchored behind Lynyard Cay, just north of Little Harbour.  We all enjoyed a fine pot luck meal aboard Andiamo before settling down for the night.  We had been watching our Sirius weather reports all day and finally the winds had changed and were becoming a little gusty during the evening.  Our new Manson anchor held and it was worth its weight in gold.
