Thursday had been a day to get caught up on boat maintenance along with the never ending laundry. Jay and Pegg were arriving from St. Augustine that afternoon to be guests aboard Brunelle for the week. Brunelle was serving dinner for all of us. It was great seeing Jay and Pegg once again as they had hosted us over the winter months while Andiamo was docked in St. Augustine.
Friday was Sojer Day on Man-O-War, a nearby cay, and we took the 10:30 ferry over to the cay. Man-O-War Cay was known for its international boat building reputation and as the nautical capital of the Abacos. Dan and Martha had a friend who had commissioned one of the builders to build a boat. We saw the boat and it was expected to be completed by the end of April.
Sojer Day celebrated Man-O-War’s background and tradition. Throughout the day, locals acknowledged their history and rich heritage through food, skits, musical selections, artifacts, tours, and booths that reflected the cay’s reputation as the Bahamas’ boatbuilding capital. We watched the locals play old fashion games along with exhibiting their rope making skills. We decided to have lunch overlooking the crowded harbour at Dock and Dine. It had been a good decision as we all needed to rest and get some shade. We took the 3:15 ferry back to Marsh Harbor and enjoyed a quiet evening aboard Andiamo.
