We left Marathon about 9:15am after fueling up to head to Key West. The winds were favorable and we motored along. The water was getting clearer and we saw Portuguese man-of-war jelly fish and an occasional dolphin. Sevilla realized they were having some transmission issues and their engine was overheating. We held back to keep them in sight in case there were any further issues.
In mid-afternoon, Sevilla thought it was best if they pulled into a boat yard just north of Key West. It turned out this had been a wise decision since the transmission would need to be evaluated.
Key West
We continued down the coast to Key West and recognized the buoy on land marked “Southern most point of the US” and the very same beach we had visited two years ago when we vacationed with our family. We rounded the point and saw Mallory Square and continued to the Key West City Marina mooring ball field located behind Fleming Key. We arrived at 5:15pm and were thrilled that we had finally arrived in Key West. We marveled every day that we were down there with our boat.
