We left our Conch Marina at 7:45am with the help of Kathy from Pekabu III. She would join us in Key Largo because Pete had been delayed from his business in Philadelphia due to a snowstorm! We all felt sorry for Pete because we had 65 degree temperatures. We said our good bye yesterday to Sevilla since they would not be continuing on our adventure. Once their new transmission arrived and was installed, they would be enjoying golfing on the Florida coast and meeting up with friends. We were hoping they would join us when we returned from the Bahamas and traveled up the coast back to the Chesapeake.
We met up with Brunelle in the channel as they had been at the mooring field for the past few evenings and we enjoyed a terrific sail of over seven knots for most of the day. The immigration boat went up to Brunelle and asked where they had been the previous night and if we were traveling with them. Martha responded correctly and the black boat with the four very large power motors on the back disappeared as quickly as they had appeared. I wondered if someone would actually say they had spent the previous night in Cuba!
Brunelle on Hawk Channel We arrived in Marathon Key at 2:15pm to a full house. There was not one empty mooring ball and there are 231 of them! We anchored out with at least 100 other boats. We figured it was crowded due to the strong cold front that had come through and the boats were waiting to move on or to hop over to the Bahamas from this point along the Florida coast.
