January 28, 2011 Marathon to Key Largo

We pulled up our muddy anchor at 7:30am.  The Manson anchor we had purchased last summer had been great so far for the conditions we had encountered and we would highly recommend it for other boats.

Andiamo in the sunlight on Hawk Channel

As we headed back out to the Hawk Channel we put out sails since NE winds at 15 knots were predicated. We had the best sail we had ever had.  Andiamo was going 8.3 knots for part of the day and the rest of the day she was over seven knots. We had done more sailing during those two days than we had done during the entire previous year.  It was simply the best; there are no other words for it!
We arrived in the Key Largo area early due to our speed and this was the port that we needed a high tide to enter so we passed Time Out in the channel while Brunelle went out to scope our route to the gulf stream once we decided we were leaving Florida and going to the Bahamas.
We decided to enter Key Largo very slowly and we arrived at Marina Del Mar to a very warm welcome from Candi, the dock master.  Candi helped us tie Andiamo up as we had expected to stay for about a week while watching and waiting for the perfect weather window to cross to the Bahamas.
Dinner upon Brunelle was excellent.  Martha had made a tortellini soup to die for!  We had an early night because we were all exhausted from our day.
