Our plan was to leave at 7:30am so we could hand in our keys via boat. If we didn’t, it was going to be a very long walk to the security office. The office opened at 7:30 and if you hail them on the radio, they would go to the water edge with a long net and you drop the keys into it while you are leaving. It was a unique situation but I missed the picture opportunity of Brunelle dropping in the keys.
We had a fast day with the currents and we arrived at Titusville Municipal Marina at 2:30. After a fuel fill up and a pump out, we were in our slip for a two night stay. We were renting a car in the morning to tour the Kennedy space Center. It was supposed to be a rainy morning so the timing for a tour was perfect.
During our ride down the ICW in this area, we saw many signs regarding manatees. We were watching out for them but had not seen one yet but we did spot many dolphins. I was speaking to the fuel dock hand and asked about the manatees. He told me the water was a little chilly at the moment but at one time they had 25 of them in the marina at one time. That must have been a great sight to see! We were looking forward to seeing them as we headed south to warmer waters.
Passing a working barge approaching Titusville
We had a delicious dinner on Brunelle that evening while planning our touring for the next day. We had contacted Pekabu and Sevilla in order to get their input for later in the week. We would be meeting up with the other two boats within the next week to continue our journey as a group of four. They had traveled south earlier in December while we stayed in St. Augustine so we could travel home for the holidays.
