January 6-7, 2011 Titusville

We rented a car early in the day to tour Kennedy Space Center which was about 15 minutes from our marina.  We first took a bus tour with two stops.   The first was the Launch Complex 39 observation gantry where we had a 360 degree view of the launch pads, the Crawler-Transporter, and the Vehicle Assembly Building.

The second stop was the Apollo/Saturn V Center which featured a 360 foot launching rocket which was needed for a trip to the moon!  There were many Apollo treasures such as prototype spacesuits and other artifacts.  Several moon rocks were on display which were older than earth.  We stood in line for a “Get Vertical” shuttle launch experience.  We sat and were belted into a seat that simulated a shuttle take off.  It was quite impressive.  We ended our visit with a “Live Mission briefings” as to the future of NASA missions and rocket launches.

To finish off our day, our on board chef, John, prepared a marinated salmon dinner.

We did some grocery shopping while we still had use of the rental car.  It was getting challenging to keep finding additional places to store things on board Andiamo; however, once we crossed over to the Bahamas, I was sure we would be happy that we had done all the shopping.
