We were still in Key Largo aka “Paradise”. Our weather had been perfect with blue skies and temps in the 70’s and low 80’s. The weather window to cross over to the Bahamas that we were waiting for had not been good. We had made the best of it and we continued to shop for food or any item in a store. We took the folding bikes that Pekabu and Brunelle had on board and pedaled to Publix or a Dive Direct store. We often had to become creative on how to pack our backpacks to get our purchases back to the boat. It did make us think about how much we really needed something before we bought it.
In this marina, the pump out boat comes only one day a week, on Wednesdays, and then it is “island time”. Island Time was that they come IF they have time and even then they won’t commit to a specific time for them to come and pump out your boat. Because of that the guys left and took the bikes to the store, West Marine. While they were gone I noticed a boat very close to our stern. I looked and it just happened to be the pump out boat! Since this was supposed to be John’s job, I hailed Martha to come and help me with this new procedure. We struggled to get the cap off and then we had to bring the heavy hose across the top deck of the boat and try to figure out how it worked. At last, we were successful! Once the guys returned, we decided to go to the Tiki bar to celebrate and enjoy the afternoon.
Andiamo’s wind vane broke earlier in the trip and Dan had done a quick repair but we weren’t sure how long it would last. John ordered a new one and it did arrive here at the marina. Dan was kind enough to go back out on the mast and replace it. We saved the old one as a spare - just in case someone else may need it during the trip.
