February 5, 2011 Key Largo

Our group of eight, including Ann and Howie, (friends of Pekabu) went on the 10am tour on the glass bottom boat, Princess, which was docked very close to us there at the marina.  They took us out to the Molasses Reef which was a 45 minute ride from Port Key Largo.  It gave us a very different perspective by riding on the bow of a larger power boat and looking down at the water rather than the view from being in a sailboat.  Once we arrived at the reef we went to the lower deck of the boat and looked at the many different species of coral and fish.  The tour guide explained the delicate balance of all the different mammals, animals, and plant life.  It was quite interesting and it perked up our enthusiasm for snorkeling over in the Bahamas.  Ann and Pete realized how easy it was to feed the birds.  Ann was holding corn chips out and a bird finally came and took one right out of her hand.
