John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park was about 3 miles north of us on RT 1. We decided to investigate the park that morning. Since Ann and Howie could drive only a few of us, Dan, Pete, and John pedaled their way to the park to meet up with us. The Welcome Center offered a movie describing the sea life out on the reefs. The center also had a great aquarium with many of the species of life that was shown in the movie. We took some pictures of the lobsters, fish, and other marine life. We enjoyed walking through the park and looked longingly at the mooring balls that we were unable to get to. We had inquired about taking Pekabu over since it drafts the lowest water but we were told not to even think about a draft over four feet. Pekabu is at the five foot level which is why we were unable to get there via water.

Upon getting back to our marina, we barbecued hamburgers and had a wonderful late lunch picnic. We wanted to eat a good meal since we were having only appetizers for the Super Bowl party later in the evening.

Bob, Lucia, Wally, and Connie from our CCYC group came to help us party with our marina friends. At the time they were on Arkeoo in Marathon. We all had a great time catching up with everyone and we even watched the Super Bowl commercials. Pekabu had been the winner of one of the quarters of the pool that Dan helped create earlier in the day. The Arkeoo group headed back after the game since they were sailing their boat up the following morning for an evening stay at the marina.
