February 17, 2011 Key Largo

This day was a slightly early day as we went out to test the adjustment that Dan made to his propeller the day before. We left the dock at 8:15 due to the tide issue at the mouth of the Port Largo canal system. There was only a slight improvement and Dan would again email the company to see if anything else could be done.  In the meantime the company's sales representative would be at the Miami boat show that we were planning on attending the following day.

Our rental car company called and said our 6 passenger van was ready to be picked up so we did exactly that and drove 8 miles north for lunch to a place called Gilbert’s Raw Bar & Grill.  This had been recommended to us by Candi, our dock master.  It was a nice outdoor bar & grill right on the beach and had a great view of some anchored boats.  We all enjoyed our meal.

In the evening, we had our dinner on the veranda followed by a movie.  Joy and Dean from NW Canada supplied the film “African Queen”.  Joy and Dean had been going down to the Keys for the past 7 winters.  They stored their boat in Georgia during the summer.  We all were laughing at some of the scenes in the movie and seeing the actual boat here in our harbor was an added delight.
