February 18, 2011 Miami Boat show

                                                  Sailboats at Bayside
We left after an early breakfast and were glad that we did.  It took us about two hours to travel through Miami to get to the north side where the AA Arena had its underground parking.  We then took a 10 minute water taxi ride to Bayside where the Strictly Sail Boat Show was being held.  There were also a few vendors at the show.  We all commented on the small number of sailboats on display as compared with the Annapolis boat show.  South Florida is a high motor and fishing boat area.  We came across Gerry from Ragtime.  Gerry is in our CCYC club in the Chesapeake and he had rented a condo in Ft. Lauderdale for a month.  Along with Gerry's company we also enjoyed the hamburgers that we had for lunch.

After lunch we split up since Brunelle was looking for a godson and Pekabu was touring boats.  We agreed to meet back at the car at 5:30pm.  John and I headed over to the Convention Center via the shuttle bus where the vendors out did the Annapolis show by a long shot.  We could not possibly have walked and looked at everything that was there.  Some vendors were the same but there were many new things to look at.  If you were shopping for a fishing rod, this was the place!  As we were walking around, I guess it wasn’t all that big, we ran into Richard and Laurie Young from Forever Young.  They were the couple that John had worked with and we saw them in Oriental NC and Key West.  They went up the west coast of Florida and were now in Ft. Lauderdale while waiting for a part before heading over to the Bahamas. It was a pleasure meeting up with them and listening to how nice the west coast was. They said they were planning on returning next winter.

We were back in Marina del Mar by 8pm and ate at a local bar while enjoying a fish fry. We were all totally exhausted from a most enjoyable day!
