March 20-21, 2011 Nassau-Atlantis

We arrived at Atlantis around 11:00am and were excited to begin our visit.  While we were still waiting for our slip assignment out in the harbour, they told us our slip would not have electrical power.  We informed them that it was okay and that we still wanted the slip.  We did have a generator on board so if we needed power we were able to juice up our batteries. We arrived at our slip with a warm welcome from Pekabu.  They told us that the previous day a transformer blew which had affected about 20 slips and of course one of the 20 was ours.  We did have a fantastic view from our cockpit.  It was directly across from the main entrance of Atlantis.

We had lunch and off we went to the water park.  We took two rounds of the rapid water tube ride which was about a mile long.  How efficiently the park, hotel, and marina operation was run never ceased to amaze us.  Finding some areas of the park that we had missed on our last visit a few weeks prior showed us just how large the complex truly was.  We found the fitness center, spa, dolphin cay area, and kid’s area which were all very well done.  There seemed to be a different pool around every corner.

We had dinner upon Pekabu and afterwards Pete took us out for a lesson on taking pictures at night.  We took some night time pictures of the marina at Atlantis.  While we were there we realized it was the busy season for Atlantis and there were a lot of BIG vessels in the marina.  The largest by far was the Mary Jean II with 222 feet.  One of our nearby boats looked her up on line and reported that that she was a charter and you could lease her for $375,000.00 a week.  We were assuming the crew came with that price!  She was the one with the dark blue hull in our pictures.  She was massive and made the other 100 foot-plus vessels look small next to her.  So you know what our 44 foot sailboat looked like in the harbour but we were proud of Andiamo that she had made it this far and was in the same harbour as Mary Jean.
Danny and Natasha finally arrived by plane as Brunelle’s guests on Monday afternoon after a  flight delay but they quickly got changed and went off to the water park to meet up with us.  We showed them how to navigate the slides quickly before the park closed.  We all had a great time watching Dan and Natasha come down the tube ride through the shark tank.  Another great day!
