March 8, 2011 Big Majors to Sampson Cay

Brunelle’s turn for the trip to the airstrip was on this day.  One of their children and family of four came down for a week from Boston to sail with them and it was their day to return back to Boston.  John and I went to the beach to try to get better pictures of the swimming pigs but two very large boats came and deposited their garbage on the beach.  The pigs were very content to eat on the beach and they were not very interested in us out in the water with our bread!

                                               Three adult pigs on shore!

We left our anchorage at 10:30 to head north to Sampson Cay Club Marina.  Pekabu had been there since Sunday.  The marina had been advertising free water on Tuesday so there we were!  We all needed a marina to do laundry, wash the boats (inside & out), and fill up on water and fuel.  The marina was beautiful and it reminded me of a typical tropical resort.  We arrived just in time for lunch so Kathy made reservations for all of us at the marina restaurant.  Their $2.00 specials were: chicken Quesada, grilled chicken, or sliders.  We all ordered several specials.  It turned out that we had a new waiter and our wait for lunch was much longer than normal. The chef apologized and all had a free lunch on them.  So with the free water and free lunch that day, they lost money on us!  However, if you wanted to take a shower it was $4.00 for eight minutes. We showered on the boat and then filled the water tanks so we still made out. The laundry was also the highest we had come across so far on our trip.  It was $4.00 for one load of wash and another $4.00 for the dryer.  I guess it all worked out in the end.

We were planning on staying there for two nights and we would see how the weather was at that point.  We were expecting high winds once again.  Brunelle would be heading back to Staniel Cay the next day as they would be having guests from Chile arrive for a week’s stay with them.  We were looking forward to meeting them as we had heard a lot about them.
The colorful, blooming flowers still amazes me!  This was taken on Staniel Cay.
